Le Sserafims Coachella

By : Shanise Lachelle

This past weekend was the start of mega festival Coachella and kpop rising group Le sserafim performing. They are now the 5th kpop group to perform at the American festival and fans are not happy. Let’s get into it….

I’ve known about the girls of Le sserafim for a while now and I know they make a lot of fun songs. And their songs are always trending. They are a part of the company Hybe. And I’m a big Hybe fan and usually love anything and anyone they produce: NEW JEANS, TXT, and of course powerhouse BTS. But with Le sserafim, it literally took me a while to get into them.

It wasn’t until their recent comeback and single release for Easy. That I sat down and watched some content and listened to their music. And I loved it instantly. They are pretty girls with pretty decent vocals, but they really stand out in the areas of dancing and performing.

What’s happening now is, their Coachella performance was absolutely NOT up to par and gave more of a karaoke vibe . as idols and almost two years old, fans are upset that the girls did not give a amazing performance. And I kind of agree. I’ve seen the countless videos and TikTok’s, and I’ve seen the “good” edits and the “bad ones”. Like I said before, I NEVER took them as a vocal group but more of a dance group who could hum a tune. But I’ve also never seen them sing live until now.

I personally don’t think the girls were ready for this sort of stage. And they definitely need more vocal training. They danced really well and tried to keep the crowd up, but every time one of them would sing , it was like a cat screaming into the microphone. Maybe their microphones were too low and they couldn’t hear themselves in their in-ears?! either way it was a Mess. And all of this drama is coming at them fast as another kpop group was also performing last weekend as well. Super talented ATEEZ and they got rave reviews for their performances. So it just makes you wonder if one can do it effortlessly, why couldn’t the other?

And of course it’s not fair to compare a group that’s been together longer than a group that just debuted like a year or two ago. But all in all they’re all IDOLS, which means you’re supposed to be as close to perfection as you can get. They literally train half of their lives away for this job. So the lackluster performances really don’t cut it!

Japanese member Sakura took to social media to try and deflect and defend her group, saying this was one of their best performances. and she was quickly attacked for it. Mostly because she’s been an idol for over 10 years and you can tell she hasn’t improved vocally that much at all. A lot of the comments from fans were actually good criticism while’s others were a little harsh. Either way as an idol and celebrity you either ignore it and go on about your day. Or you use the negativity to fight back and actually improve.

The girls are obviously talented and hard working, and with MORE hardworking and attention on their vocals they could be MASSIVE. And shut all the haters down. I think instead of taking it so personal which I know is harder said than done. They should just work harder on having better vocals and their singing . I honestly wish them the best of luck in the future and if they want, they can totally improve. But if this is the way they’re gonna continue, I will definitely not be buying tickets to that tour.
