Self Love Is The Best Love!

By : Shanise Lachelle

Welcome back to the blog! Even though Valentine’s Day has come and gone, the month of February is still all about LOVE. Today we will be discussing why the self love is so impressive and vital .

Every year, I always see bitter women and men on social media complaining about being alone and or having a valentine. And I get it, I used to be that person as well. I HATED Valentine’s Day, literally would dread it and hated going to school on that day. Besides my mom, I NEVER got anything from a potential lover. and I got to see all my friends and other girls get flowers, bears, balloons and after a while it just made me feel so unwanted and ugly.

And year after year, straight into adulthood, I resented the holiday and everything that came from it. It wasn’t until I got older and started loving and spoiling myself, that I begin to LOVE the holiday. I even started buying my friends gifts and getting all into the holiday spirit, with decorating and dressing up.

I realized that we put so much pressure onto a holiday that literally has zero meaning. It’s a corporate holiday used to make single people feel even worse about being single. And people in relationships feel like they have to go over and beyond to prove their love.

When you love someone , everyday should be like Valentine’s Day! You shouldn’t wait for one day to show that. Also the older you get, you realize the love you have for yourself is what’s important! You will never be able to attract the person you want, and be in a healthy relationship if you Don’t have a healthy relationship within yourself first!

I used to HATE hearing that from people, but it’s definitely the truth! It also changes how you see yourself and what you allow! When I didn’t love myself and just accepted anything, that’s the kind of love I received. When I started having standards and boundaries, my relationship within myself got stronger. And I no longer settled for the bare minimum. It also helps weed out people who are not good for you.

If a person doesn’t respect your boundaries or raise to meet your standards, they aren’t for you or meant to be in your life. Loving yourself is so crucial and it’s definitely the first step in finding genuine Healthy love.

I feel like everyone is always like “I do LOVE myself”. But do you really?

Learn to love yourself and love being alone, that way when your person comes into your life, you’ll be ready!

And maybe then, you’ll meet your forever Valentine. But remember, you are the first love of your life! So treat yourself accordingly!
