Welcome Back to the Blog! Today we will be talking about one of Netflix’s New and top films out right now, DON’T MOVE. Let’s get into it….
The plot for this movie is very interesting but almost sold me on not watching it at all. I’m exhausted with the amount of “making women suffer for no reason” horror movies we’ve been getting lately. It’s almost like they go into these meetings and find a writer who hates women so much and writes these outrages films and BOOM it’s a hit of course. They hardly EVER make these type of male centered films and I’m over it to be honest.
But the plot did intrigue me and I just HAD to know how it was going to end. I was indeed too nosey to let this film slip on by. So I sat down and gave it a go and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it.
The film starts as we meet our main character iris who is grieving the death of her son and is getting ready to commit suicide. Until she meets a mysterious handsome stranger who takes her on a wild ride .
The stranger who introduces himself to iris and the viewers as Richard bonds with iris over grieving. He then injects her with a chemical, that he tells her in minutes will make her paralyzed and she won’t be able to speak . that is a juicy plot and literally had me glued to the Tv from start to finish.
When “Richard” first came into the screen i immediately knew something was off about him. And yes it’s obvious he’s going to be the villain, but watching as I’m in her position, I didn’t trust him at all. I’m very wary of strangers who just show up pretending to save you and being super charming. In that type of nature/ outdoor environment, where there aren’t many people around would make me nervous as well. and she sensed danger maybe just a little too late. But she was vulnerable and an easy target, so of course she was easy to capture.
The movie does start off strong and gets right to the point . But the actual plot of her being paralyzed and fighting for her life , literally only lasted for about 20 mins. She literally spent the rest of film paralyzed and unable to do anything. Until the last 15 to 20 minutes when she started to regain her motor skills.
I was very stressed out watching . I didn’t think she would loose all of functions at once, I thought it would go one by one . And that perhaps made it even more frightening and frustrating to watch as a viewer.
Every time we think she’s saved and about to get away , she doesn’t and I almost lost hope for her as well.
There were a few cheesy lines and scenes of course, I meant it is Netflix . The fight scene with the old man was equal parts funny and surprising.
*Spoiler Alert*
I did think she was going to die in the end and maybe that would have been a little too realistic for me . Because often these situations happen in the real world and it doesn’t end well. Iris getting away and then almost drowning literally pissed me off. I almost threw the remote at my tv. God was really on her side.
I give this film 3/5, very entertaining. And very well acted, although I would have loved seeing her fight through loosing her motor skills more. I wanted them to really show us more of how the injection affected her slowly. The way it happened, she really didn’t have much time to react or have any extreme reactions . It happened that fast.
Would only watch again to show family and friends. Wasn’t bad at all, just wanted more .
