Welcome Back To The blog! Today we will be reviewing The Woman In The Yard.
Let’s get into it….
This film centers around Ramona and her two kids , who’s dealing with the sudden loss of her husband. when a mysterious woman in black appears in their yard.

Going into the movie blind, but knowing it was by BlumHouse, I did not expect much. But from the trailers , I was very excited . I was hugely let down to say the least.
The movie is very heavy on themes of grief and navigating motherhood through it all. I’m not a mother, but I understand grief. Grief takes many forms and sometimes it takes years to come out of it. I felt for Ramona, because I couldn’t imagine going through that big of a loss all while still having to be present for her children . Who are ALSO grieving and going through the same loss of their father.

The actual woman in black gets less menacing as the movie goes on. She moves closer and closer to the house as the sun sets. But doesn’t do much, and that’s where the movie falls flat for me.
She causes a little commotion in the house towards the end and final act. And plays little mind games. But doesn’t actually harm the kids. I was expecting her to be fighting tooth and nail to get into the house to “EAT” the kids. And that’s not what we got at all. She was after Ramona the entire time. Basically feeding off her grief!
Leading to a rather weak and depressing ending. I didn’t care for it and it broke my heart for Ramona and the kids. I get not every horror or thriller needs a happy ending. But this family has already been through so much, they deserved that much. The ending was left rather open and up to interpretation. Maybe Ramona actually found happiness in the end but at what cost?!
I give this film 3/5, the acting was brilliant and very believable. The concept of the movie was different and I liked it. I just wish the movie went more of the horror route instead of the emotional thriller route. And wish the woman in black was a lot more menacing! It was entertaining but I just wanted MORE!
