Welcome Back to AsToldByShanise! Today we will be discussing the newest album from global boyband, BTS!

Let’s get into it….

For 4 years army has waited for the men of BTS to return and give us a new album and comeback. I knew that being away so long , being in the military, and also doing solo projects would change how they see themselves and music in general. So I knew their next album would be something completely different , as they’re fully grown men now and have been through A-LOT!

What I didn’t expect was them to come back with a full 14 song album , that was 95% hiphop and R&b vibes. They went back to the basics and who they are at their core. Which many don’t know was in fact, that they debuted as a hip hop kpop group and expanded over the years!

This album feels like the older brother to Dark & Wild. Or the cousin to LOVE YOURSELF :TEAR. If it’s one thing BTS does well, it’s pushing the expectations and standards of what it means to be a “kpop group”. This album isn’t like the last few they put out before the military. And it’s completely experimental and actually done right! It doesn’t sound like they’re trying too hard to stay relevant, but more so they are continuing to expand the lane they created for themselves! They’ve said many times they feel like they’ve outgrown the kpop title and make music beyond that. And I feel Arirang shows that completely!

So if you’re a casual fan or new army and you were expecting dynamite or permission to dance BTS. This just may not be the era for you . This album personally took one full listen for me to get it and when I got it, I was obsessed! It’s a 10/10 album for sure and has made it ways into my top 3 BTS albums of all time. I get why this album and comeback could be controversial . Especially if you’re a newer army or got introduced to kpop through , Kpop Demon Hunters. But if you’ve actually listened to their entire body of work and their solos, you would know this is one of their best albums and the most BTS they could possibly sound. And this quite possibly one of their most stadium /arena tour albums to date ! The production alone on these songs are insane !!!

Remember, artists are meant to grow and evolve beyond what we first met them as . It’s not fair to keep your favorite artists in a box because that’s what YOU’RE comfortable with !

Well done BTS, this album is going to sound nuts in stadiums around the world !
