Miss Chappell Roan has had a stellar 2024! She seemly rose to fame overnight and became our newest gay princess with a love and appreciation for drag! But lately she’s been pretty vocal and it’s rubbing a few people the wrong way. Let’s get into it….

Now I think Roan is incredibly talented and is a breath of fresh air. She’s been working at this for YEARS and finally the work seems to be paying off. But she doesn’t seem to be a fan of a few things.

Firstly she’s been complaining about the obsessive borderline creepy fans stalking her and she’s come out to ask for boundaries and respect. Which I completely agree on! Fans and stan culture has gotten super out of control over the last 10 years and people do need to realize these celebrities are just human beings at the end of the day. People who put their jeans on one leg at a time just like you and me. Being mobbed everywhere and stalked when you’re just trying to have a normal day is absolutely annoying.

She’s recently also been complaining about being famous and how much she hates it. While I understand she might not have understood the level of fame she was going to get, I am quite tired of her complaining about fame already. As there are tons of documentaries from celebrities like Taylor swift, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson about fame and how horrible it can be, we all know how awful it can get . And sometimes no matter how much you love something, it’s not worth it. The issue is, if she’s starting to hate it as much as she does, she can always walk away. Or take a break, nothing is more important than your mental health and safety. So if you feel like you hate a huge part of your job and never have anything positive to say lately, then don’t do it. Simple as that, I’m aware of contracts and how she can’t just walk away without it being difficult but it is possible. And if she doesn’t want to quit , her next best option is a break away from music for a few months. She just seems ungrateful and everything I’ve seen about her lately is negative and her complaining. And while I agree she may be overwhelmed by fame and the super fans are annoying, a lot of that comes with the deal. And sometimes you just gotta shut up and deal with it. I’m sure Beyoncé gets annoyed all the time, but she’s learned to deal with it privately and with grace! I can’t help but think if this was a young gay poc going about fame the way she is and how much hate they would be getting vs everyone cheering Chappell on.

Another thing is Chappell is young and very new to the game, she’s very honest and blunt! She’s not sugarcoating anything and I do love that for her, you have to thick skin and a strong sense of self to survive in this industry! And she’s sticking up for herself and rightly so. I just wish her Pr team would give her more media training, that way she could get her points across without sounding ungrateful. Because in the end, she has every right to feel however she feels! but she is starting to sound ungrateful.

And lastly, I wasn’t a fan of hearing how she told fans both political parties were bad and seemingly trying to not have an opinion on this year’s historical election! I don’t like the government and I don’t trust them, and I don’t particularly agree on everything they say. But I’m smart enough to see one politician is way better than the other and how important it is to use my voice and vote for the better of this country. For someone who’s a queer woman with the huge platform she has, to say publicly both parties are bad and try to get away from the topic is absurd. She doesn’t have to talk about it or like it! But if you’re not going to say anything smart and helpful, then don’t say anything at all. The only right answer for her would have been to just tell her fans to vote and to vote blue. As the blue is the side that’s trying to help women and the queer community!

Chappell has such a great future ahead of her , she’s talented and makes great fun gay music! She’s relatable and super honest. And she can still be blunt but more professional and media trained. No one likes you no matter how talented of you continue to be negative and complain about everything! She clearly has a lot of growing to do and that’s okay. I just hope she learns it sooner rather than later.
