Hello and welcome back to the blog! As part of my spooky season this year , I’m encouraging myself to watch as many new horror films as I can , while simultaneously watching a lot of my favorites . Today we will be discussing Ti Wests Pearl. It’s taken me two years to watch it, but I’ve finally managed to sit down and watch it. And it was …. Interesting. Let’s get into it….

First things first, 5/5! Just based off originality, the script, and the acting was overall excellent. This is not a remake or reboot, and that alone puts this high on my list . I love a good original horror. And it’s not just a slasher horror but also a psychological horror as well. Mia Goth is magnificent as Pearl. And literally carries this movie on her back. I fear this movie would’ve been super boring if not for her.
This movie is the prequel to The smash hit X. And it follows the origin of the old lady aka Pearl. After watching X, I was curious to know how she and her husband came to be the way they are and now we finally have an answer.
Pearl is an only child who grows on this farm far away from other young adults and her town. She’s a young adult/ teenager, she’s got raging hormones, her husband is off to war, her mom is suffocating and strict. And her dad is sick and bound to a wheelchair. That’s enough to make anyone go crazy honestly. Pearl dreams of the day she can finally leave the farm life behind and become an actress. But things get a little complicated once her mother realizes her plans.
Like I said before ,Mia goth has solidified herself as our new scream queen! She’s absolutely amazing in both X and Pearl. This now franchise, is so successful and loved solely because she’s the one who’s leading. She makes us truly believe she’s this lonely psychotic farm girl with slight serial killer tendencies.
At some points you almost feel bad for her, especially the scenes dealing with her mother. And you can definitely see the points where she starts to unravel and snap.
Her monologue in the third act is so hauntingly beautiful, and for a second I was tearing up with her and felt bad for her. Until I snapped out of it and realized she was a cold blooded killer who kills when she doesn’t get her way. That’s just how good Mia GOth is . She makes you feel sorry for Pearl.

Favorite kills: The Projectionist
Honestly he was super gorgeous and maybe he had the right to be creeped out by Pearl. But he played that entire situation so wrong and if smarter could have survived.
Least favorite kill: Misty
Yes misty got the part she wanted and she was slightly annoying, but she was truly pearls friend and nice to pearl. She didn’t deserve that at all.
I would definitely rewatch Pearl even if it’s just to replay during spooky season. And I would LOVE to see Mia Goth in more horror in the future. Her range is incredible!
