Until Dawn Review

By:Shanise Lachelle

Welcome Back to The Blog! Today we will finally be reviewing, Until Dawn!

Let’s get into it….

We start this story following our lead girl Clover and her friends , as they search for her missing sister Melanie. I know this movie is loosely based on the popular video game of the same name. And that the vibes are very Death Day, the characters relive the same day over and over . All while dying a different and horrifying way each time.

I actually was very impressed with this movie and went in with zero expectations, and I actually thought I’d hate it ! But I ended up loving it and it’s one of the few horror films I’ve enjoyed this year.

The character dynamics were fine and a little on the nose, but they were definitely some ride or dies for Clover. And I can appreciate a good friend circle. Especially when it’s life or death- LITERALLY.

*Spoiler*

My favorite death scene was of course this disgusting scene of everyone…. EXPLODING! It was bloody, gory, and gross. And I gagged the first time I saw it, then I rewatched it and I died from laughter! It was pure comedy, but I felt so bad for the characters. because that has to be one of the worst ways I can think of to die.

*Lead Girl*

Our lead and final girl Clover was exceptional, even with the lack luster script . I think Ella Rubin did a great job with what she was handed , and she delivered. She played a grieving and worried sister very well. I would also love to see Ella in more horror. I think she’d be a great lead or side character, and especially if she was given a real plot and script.

Overall I give this film 4/5, I know fans of the game and horror fans alike had many gripes with the movie . But besides the sometimes cringey lines, it was a lot of fun. And sometimes that’s totally okay for movies to be. It doesn’t always have to be super serious and make a lot of sense. Sometimes we the people just want to be scared out of our minds and entertained . And this film did just that. It clearly won’t be for everyone, but I can already see it making it into my repeat watches. Especially around Spooky season.
