Welcome Back To the Blog! Today we will be discussing the next installment of the Fear Steer franchise,PROM QUEEN!

Let’s get into it…..

First things first, I absolutely HATED THIS MOVIE. This was one of my most anticipated horror films of 2025 and it was garbage.

The film is set in the 80s and it’s supposed to be loosely tied to the original Fear Street trilogy, with this film being set up after the second one. we follow a group of girls who are going up for prom queen at their high school. The main character, who was as bland as a slice of bread , is Lori Granger. When one by one , they start to get killed off by a mysterious stranger in a red coat!

I felt no connection to our final girl or ANY of the characters actually. Felt zero empathy or sympathy for any of them. There was zero build up for us to care about any of these characters. So by the time they died, it was just like… okay.

The deaths were literally so over the top and DUMB. I literally had to stop myself from rolling my eyes and laughing . You can tell they were trying so hard to out do the Fear Street trilogy, and failed miserably. The script was weak and so was the acting in my opinion. There’s a scene where one of the guys gets both hands cut off and he still try’s to open the door to escape… with his no hands. It literally felt like a parody at that point, and the only reason I didn’t turn the movie off, is because I needed to see it through. I wanted it to get better and it just didn’t.

The tension between our mean girl and our main girl next door, was super textbook, And border line very queer. It almost seemed like Tiffany had a little crush on Lori the way she KEPT bullying her. It was relentless, but if you’ve ever been bullied you know it’s just jealousy. then there was this mid and total out of place dance off… I had already lost interest in the film at that point , but that really had me confused.

The big reveal of the killer, or killers was lack luster. By the time they revealed who was doing the killings, I didn’t care. The whole time I was watching this film I waited and waited for it to connect to the fear street movies and it never did!

Which makes zero sense, because if you watched the fear street films, you’d know the reason for the whole Sunnyvale vs shady side beef was because of the curse. And the deal the GOODE family made with the devil. That was NEVER touched on in this movie, so it seems like this random rich family is just killing people.

I read that this film was not directed by the same director of the original 3 films and that this film was directed by a man. And honestly that speaks for itself! The first 3 were fully fleshed out, had interesting scripts and characters we cared about. This movie was literally something just thrown out there to make more money and pacify us fans. And it didn’t work.

I had such high hopes for this film and I can’t believe how garbage it was honestly. I’m truly flabbergasted.
