Scream 7 Review

By : Shanise Lachelle

Welcome back to AsToldByShanise! Today we will be reviewing the latest installment of the hit horror franchise Scream.

Let’s get into it ….

We pick up with an entire new storyline , once again following famous final girl , Sydney Prescott . As she tries to navigate motherhood and her angsty teenage daughter, Tatum. Who happens to be the same age Sydney was when the first scream happened.

We left scream 6 in New York , with sisters Tara and Sam. But unfortunately due to personal beliefs, Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise. Following her exit , Jenna Ortega also left the franchise, in support of Melissa. It was incredibly frustrating as a scream fan, because we finally wrapped up Sydney’s storyline in scream 4 and had finally moved on to new and exciting characters! I do not believe Melissa should have been fired for her personal beliefs and having empathy.

But she was and here we are BACK in Sydney Prescott’s world . Overall the acting and the script was Horrible. This did not fill like a legit scream film to me at all. It felt rushed , and lackluster ! And I’m sure it was rushed due to them having to scrap whatever storyline they had lined up for Tara and Sam , and make an entire new one .

Tatum as Sydney’s oldest daughter was just okay. Nothing memorable, and I feel like as a daughter of a super famous final girl, she should have been MORE. But that’s literally pointed out several times in the film how she’s nothing like her mother , and that makes me have empathy for the 17 year old , but also roll my eyes .

The ever growing and annoying usage of AI was part of the story line in this film and it was a little too on the nose for me. I didn’t like the cameos they used for this film, especially bringing Stu back. Which felt just like a quick crash crab and something to keep fans hooked, since Melissa and Jenna were no longer apart of the film. I feel like they knew they had to step it up to keep us invested and it just fell flat for me personally.

The only thing I LOVED was the gore but it’s also one of the things I hated . It was probably the most gory I’ve ever seen a scream film be , and at times it just felt super over the top . I didn’t feel any sadness or attachment to Tatums friend group, and when they all got killed off, I was happy the story was moving along faster .

The MULTIPLE ghost face reveals were the weakest reveals in the entire franchise !! They also made zero sense, as most ghost faces have a connection to Sydney . Sydney legit didn’t do anything to this lady and her reasons didn’t make any rational sense . Mind you the final ghost face was leaked when the film originally came out, and I knew who it would be. But I was hoping the leak was fake and it turned out to be someone else .

And not to spoil anything , she was also the weakest ghost face , EVER. I personally wouldn’t recommend this film to anyone and I would skip it in the franchise all together. Nothing about it was good or scary . And it just felt like a bad parody . If I didn’t know this was a scream movie, it legit could have been any slasher film . That’s just how generic it was . 2/5 just based off principle and because Sydney is still a total bad ass!!
