Primate Review

By : Shanise Lachelle

Welcome Back To AsToldByShanise! Today we will be reviewing, horror/ thriller , Primate.

Let’s get into it…

Primate centers around our final girl , Lucy . As she returns home with friends to find that her once beloved and smart pet chimp, has become rabid .

Over all and first things first, I give this movie 3/5. I love that it was about a killer chimpanzee and that it wasn’t the usual killer shark . I love when Hollywood decides to dip into different types of animal horror AND not stick to the same ol shark thriller that we’ve seen a 100 times over. There’s not that many crazed chimpanzee movies, given that they’re one of the only primates to kill just for the fun of it. And they are also highly intelligent!! That alone makes them extremely scary to me and I’ve never thought they made a good pet. Some wild animals are best left in the wild and this film is a good example of that.

While this movie is extremely dramatic and this isn’t that likely to happen on a regular basis, it was still a fun ride from beginning to end . the deaths were extremely brutal and gory. And quite creative given the circumstances and what they had to work with .

* Things I didn’t like

Once they realized Ben has been acting strangely, lucy is still trying to act Normal with him and treat him the same . Even after her dad says he’s been bitten and to keep him locked up. I don’t know, if my dad told me that and later on that night he started to act out of character, I would immediately gather everyone and call animal control . Especially because he’s a chimpanzee and not like a dog or cat. He’s a wild animal and you don’t really know how he’s going to react or what’s going on in his head .

( Spoilers)

Everything that happens AFTER the sister gets bitten stresses me out to no end . None of the friends survive and Lucy and her family literally almost get beaten to death. I was annoyed, because is it not common to have something to put a rabid exotic animal down in case something like this happens?! When Hannah suggests that , everyone is appalled, and here I am thinking she was the smartest.

The monkey was not cgi and was a man in a monkey suit. And I could totally tell it was a man in a monkey suit and that bothered me through the whole movie. It didn’t feel very realistic at all.

Hannah wasn’t a very nice girl but in my opinion she was one of the smartest. She almost got away until it came to her death scene. Which was extremely brutal and hard to watch .

Overall I did enjoy Primate and would definitely watch it again. And maybe this would open the door for more Monkey horror to be made, now that they see there is a market for it. And people will absolutely watch it .
