Welcome Back to AsToldByShanise! Today we will be reviewing, EVIL DEAD BURN!
Let’s get into it….

First things first, I give this film 4/5. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and these deadites were absolutely brutal! The story follows Alice who’s grieving her husband’s sudden death. She’s then forced to bond with the husband’s estranged family when chaos strikes.
There are MANY things I loved about this movie. And many aspects of the film that were scary but not exactly horror. One being the in-laws family dynamic . You can literally feel the tension between everyone . They clearly blame Alice and don’t like her very much. And she feels just as uncomfortable and awkward with them as well. The unhealthy dynamic is a perfect recipe for the book of the dead and deadites to devour . There’s also strong hints of domestic abuse and family abuse , and it’s pretty strong . It automatically makes you feel for Alice to be in such a toxic family ON TOP of everything else that’s going on.

The deadites were absolutely insane in this evil dead! I was actually terrified of them . They tore Alice and the family up !! I also loved the way the director decided to film the movie , very chaotic and heavy action. When I first saw the trailer I thought it didn’t fit evil dead vibes and was TOO chaotic . Then I watched the film and realized this is exactly what the second film was missing ! It was totally bananas, but some shots were too long .
Like the car scene where everything kicks off was brilliant, but WAY too long . Felt like that scene definitely could have been condensed if needed be.

Grandma Polly was the comedic relief of the film and at times it WAS indeed too much . But it was a nice break up from all the drama that was going on.
The longer I sit on this film and think about it, I did enjoy it more than I thought. And when I compare it to the other 2 we’ve gotten over the last few years, it’s definitely one of the strongest. Even with its weaker points , it can definitely hold its on after the 2013 remake for SURE.
THINGS I DID NOT LIKE (spoilers)

The CGI in this film was absolutely terrible, and it drove me crazy. I did not like what they did with wills character at the end and how his final form looked. I also wasn’t a fan of the funeral scene and how him killing the funeral employee looked. It gave off cheesy Snl vibes . They also could have done way more with the demon dog and his screen time was cut way too short ! Also BIG fan of Thya’s deadite and think her time was cut way too short . Would have LOVED to see her at the end helping cause the chaos .

Alice is such a broken character at the beginning of the film, and you see her slowly gain her strength to live and fight , towards the end of the movie . Even though it annoyed me how long it took her to get activated, I understand the human response to the crazy nature of everything that was unfolding in front of her . Her emotional turmoil and trauma that she’s holding on to, it at times holds her back. But she uses that same trauma to push forward and be our final girl !
Overall such a solid film to fit a part of the growing franchise ! I’m now even more excited for evil dead wrath and what that will look like .
