Send Help Review

By : Shanise Lachelle

Welcome Back To AsToldByShanise! Today we will be reviewing horror/thriller , Send Help.

Let’s get into it ….

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien star in this very bizarre office thriller , that was marketed as a horror . When I first saw these two names, I was immediately on board . Then I read the plot and I was intrigued. But to say I have mixed feelings about this film is an understatement.

Rachel McAdams is a beautiful and phenomenal actress with incredible range. I believe every role she’s ever done , that she’s completely that character. Except this one , I was not buying her “weak” and “pathetic” portray of Linda Liddle. Often times I laughed or rolled my eyes , because it just wasn’t believable to me. And you can tell they tried very hard to make her undesirable. It wasn’t until she got on the island and after ,that she nailed her performance for me personally! Dylan O’Brien , who rose to fame on Teen Wolf, is an exceptional and very varied actor . But he’s only had a handful of films to showcase that. He played asshole boss Bradley to a perfection. I absolutely could not stand him , even while having a tiny bit of sympathy for him .

Send Help is about an over achieving Linda who finds herself trapped on an island with her new mean young boss, Bradley . Where they must band together to survive and put aside their growing differences.

As one can assume, things start to go left and get wild very quickly . I do love this plot, it’s what intrigued me the most . But for me personally it fell flat on the actual horror aspects. And quickly became more of a thriller . Linda is absolutely unwell and might have some unchecked mental illness. Because we only saw Bradley take over the company for his deceased father , for a few scenes. So in my head , he was literally only her boss for a few weeks or month at max.

These harsh feelings she has for him make sense once they get on the island , but not before hand . I understand she was promised a job title and has undeniably work super hard for it. But that is life, sometimes you can be promised something and actually deserve it. But never get it . sometimes you have to let go and move on from a job that no longer serves you or appreciates you.

The movie was also surprisingly gory and I wasn’t expecting that. As the movie goes on and Linda gets more unhinged , I was genuinely shocked with how far she went and how much she got away with. at some points I was rooting for her , because he’s so mean still given the circumstances. But other times I felt sorry for him .

That last 30 mins I was not a fan of and I completely hated the ending . It felt rushed . And left me wanting more. Of what? I’m not entirely sure, but I know I wanted MORE.

I give SEND HELP 3/5, not scary, not horror just weird with great acting . It is something different and something I haven’t seen done in a thriller in while. I was just expecting something totally different. I definitely wouldn’t watch it again.
