Let’s get to it

Obsession follows our male lead, Bear. Who makes a wish to have his girl crush and coworker love him more than anyone else in the world . Not only does it work, but it of course doesn’t quite work like he wants it to and chaos ensues!!

Starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, it was equally as refreshing to see newer and upcoming actors . Instead of the same recycled 5 actors , and it was great to see that this film got an R rating. I knew exactly where to go from there and I was pleasantly surprised!

Inde is the phenomenal and carries this entire film on her back ! 30 minutes into the film and it picks up immediately. Which I Loved and I loved that we didn’t have to wait or drag it out . Michael does an excellent job as well as unloveable and annoying bear. Who we’re supposed to start off the story feeling bad for , but he quickly turns into the villain .

From the jump, bear was extremely annoying to me and soo whiny. And I expect they made his character like this on purpose . I never once felt bad for him, even when things started to go left with Nikki . He got exactly what he wished for and should have been more careful. It’s almost known to ANYONE who’s interested in witchcraft, love spells , and or magic , that you cannot wish for someone to love you! It’s extremely dangerous and never turns out the way you want it to and this film proves just that.

Nikki is an absolute horror icon, she’s unsettling, scary and down right relatable sometimes ! And the way Inde was able to portray such a vast range of emotions so quickly within one scene , was very impressive. This film wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without her ! she’s truly a star in the making !!

In the end the only person I felt bad for was Nikki. She got her entire life uprooted and ruined, because a fragile white boy couldn’t just tell her how he felt and accept rejection! He also hides behind this whole “ nice guy persona”, which can be just as dangerous as the “bad boy persona “. The nice guys are never as nice as they claim to be and think they are owed the world , just because they’re decent . when in reality, no one has to like you back just because you’re nice !

The marketing of this movie is brilliant, because they market it as a horror in which Nikki is the bad guy. But in reality and more important obviously, it’s Bear. He knows deep down Nikki doesn’t like him more than a friend and he wishes away her autonomy without a second guess. Even when things are going so horribly wrong, he still stays with her and try’s to make it work. Showing he doesn’t care about her wellbeing , only that he’s with his “dream girl”. and only when things reach a point of no return , does he then try to fix things. But of course it’s too late .

I give this film a 5/5! I loved it so much , I watched it twice in one day. And got even more angrier with bear and the group of friends ! This film evokes so many emotions and thought pieces. I could go on for hours . Truly one of the best horror films this year and the last 5 years !
