Holiday Horror

By : Shanise Lachelle

Welcome Back to the Blog! Today we will be talking about one of my recent favorite genres: HOLIDAY HORROR! I also feel like it’s a genre that isn’t talked about a lot or appreciated. So let’s dive into it!

Horror movies that are set around different times of the year AND not just Halloween ,hit different. It takes you out of the element that scary things can only happen to you during the month of October and I love that. Let’s get into some of my favorite and classic holiday horror films!

Leprechaun

Honestly this movie is a little silly and out there, but it’s such a cult classic it spawned a mini franchise! something about a evil leprechaun is very unsettling though, and he goes to extra lengths just to get his pot of gold. Definitely a spooky season rewatch but also good to watch around St. Patrick’s Day!

Black X-Mas

Love a good Christmas horror film, and I believe this was my very first scary Christmas movie! It’s such a cult classic and totally bonkers. But it’s so much fun to watch .

Krampus

This movie is so crazy, I went into this film with little to no expectations , and left mind blown! Literally never hear people talk about how good this movie is for me. It’s definitely a sleeper hit and people don’t know what they’re missing out on! they shy away from NOTHING. And the kills are so creative! That ending always gets me!

Thanksgiving

Finally a thanksgiving horror film!!! Loved it from beginning to end, and definitely didn’t expect to at all. I went into this film also expecting very little and left very pleased. I think we need more thanksgiving themed horrors now. they’re so fun and there’s so much you can do with this holiday!

My Bloody Valentine 3D

Now this isn’t the BEST holiday horror on this list, but it’s a classic and I try to rewatch every year. Even more so around Valentine’s Day! it’s kind of cheesy and the 3D takes you out of it. But the gore and storyline makes up for it.

Heart Eyes

A recent Holiday horror film , that shocked me as well. Slasher horror has been so so lately , I don’t go into any of these movies expecting anything good now. But this movie was definitely a fun ride and aesthetically pleasing to watch ! Added to my favorite list immediately! It also didn’t shy away from being cheesy and playing on that a little! It knows what kind of movie it is and what its demographic is. And it stays true to that and I appreciate it so much!

What’s some hidden holiday horror that you’ve seen that’s NOT on my list? Let me know in the comments down below!!
