Hollywood has been in the era of remakes and reboots for the last 10 years it seems. So nothing about horror,( besides Jordan Peele), gets me excited anymore.
Although I don’t mind the Halloween reboots/remakes, because they’ve generally been good and served their purpose. Didn’t care for the Friday the 13th remake we got back in 2009. And the constant reboot and remakes with Texas Chainsaw Massacre is staring to get a bit MEH.
But I was actually very excited for this scream continuation, because unlike the others I just named, this franchise is the smartest because it just continues. It uses the original characters and keeps the plot simple. That equals happy and satisfied scream fans.
*SORT OF SPOILER ALERT*
This story doesn’t actually follow Sidney Prescott this time, but Billy loomas estranged daughter, as she’s now the new target for ghost face. I did like that twist, because I was hella confused on who she was or why her family was being targeted for the first 20 minutes.
The kills are fun, but nothing special. But they sure are gory. And I found myself inwardly cringing at some of the scenes , because I felt actual pain for the characters. My girl Tara went through the most and I just wanted to fight the writers by the end for putting her through all of that.
No spoilers if you haven’t seen it, but I Generally prefer it to the one we got in 2011 and that one was a lot of fun .
I think what Scream does right, is it continues the story, instead of starting over and over. That way we don’t loose touch with the characters. Or the feel of the movie.
One death in particular did hurt but I could see it coming from a mile away.
I give this Scream a 5/5, I really liked it alot and was kind of scared that I wouldn’t.
I will say our final girl or girls…were BAD ASS!!!!! And I live for a bad ass final girl!!
